Wisconsin Premiere!

Set against the frigid backdrop of northern Minnesota in the late 1980s, Broken Hill is a poetic and deeply human exploration of connection, memory, and the relentless search for meaning.
Three men—Pete, a young geologist; Beak, a weathered Texan crew chief; and Zoo, a haunted line-cutter—are thrown together at a remote gold prospect site known as Broken Hill. As they hunt for literal gold in a harsh, unforgiving wilderness, each is really searching for something else: hope, redemption, and a way back to themselves.
Meanwhile, Claire, Pete’s artistic ex, attempts to make sense of her grief and her past through writing—piecing together her life, her father’s legacy, and her complicated relationship with Pete. Through cassette tape recordings and theatrical memory, their lives intertwine across time and space, connecting distant hearts through words, dreams, and unfinished love.

Broken Hill is both raw and lyrical, mixing grit with beauty in a story that spans frozen forests, intimate apartments, and the mysterious “boogama” of the soul. It’s a love story, a survival story, and a tribute to the voices that echo in our heads long after the moment is gone.
Don’t miss this evocative, genre-defying journey through wilderness, memory, and the fragile gold buried in us all.

Ross Dippel (Beak) would like to thank his wife and daughter for supporting his extended absences as he chases the rush only found on the stage. Much like looking for gold, a life in theatre is a life lived in hope. Sometimes you strike it rich. This is one of those times.
He would also like to thank Michael, the Board of Directors, supporters and extended family of The Forst. New plays are important. Thanks for being here.

Gus Kroenke (Pete) is an actor from the Green Bay area who has worked with several different groups including Birder Players, Green Bay Community Theater and Evergreen Theater. Previous roles include The Rocky Horror Show (Brad Majors), Godspell (John the Baptist/Judas), The Vultures (Hunter West) and The Crucible (John Proctor).Gus is grateful for the opportunity to stretch his dramatic legs with this production of “Broken Hill”. Pete has been a complicated character to develop and bring to life but has been an  incredibly rewarding experience. Gus relates deeply to Pete’s search for hope and meaning in a seemingly endless pit of despair and loneliness.Gus would like to send his love and thanks to his family, friends, and his cat Grumbella for their continued support. He would also like to thank you, the audience, for supporting this show and local theatre.

Picture
Jonathan Medendorp (Dad) has been involved in the community theater scene for several years throughout Manitowoc County. He appeared on stage last year in the "Play that Goes Wrong" and directed RENT last fall.

He is honored to join the cast to play the role of "Dad". This is his second show playing a very old man and is worried about quickly becoming a cliche... That said, he has enjoyed the experience immensely and wouldn't change it for the world!

Picture
Karter Mueller (Zoo) is excited to be portraying the role of “Zoo” in this production of Broken Hill. Zoo is a very unique character - and has a lot of personality traits that Karter hasn’t had the opportunity to delve into , during his time acting. He hopes you enjoy the show , and come back later this season to see the rest of the shows!

Picture
Asher Stokes (Actor) has appeared on stage and off stage for many productions here at The Forst.

Picture
Raechal Wozniak-Sanford (Claire) has been heavily involved in the local community theater scene–onstage, backstage, and everywhere in-between–for the past four years. Favorite roles include: “The Tin Woman” (Joy), “Captain Wallaby’s Neighborhood” (Lady Angela), “The Rainmaker” (Lizzie), “These Shining Lives” (Catherine Donohue)
This show has been an interesting challenge for her, and she has thoroughly enjoyed connecting with the magnetic, artistic, and complex Claire, who has felt immensely like a kindred spirit. (A writer with a slippery brain who uses art to cope with the inequities life? …Ask her about the “Bird Icon”!)

She thanks “Mr. Dignan” for trusting her with this role, and has been grateful for the opportunity to work under the direction of her first director once again after 10 years.Raechal is also now currently directing a show at De Pere High School as well as preparing to be part of the LOVESTRUCK Improv Reality Dating Show cast during the Green Bay Fringe Festival.

Pete Dignan (Director) So many gold digs, so few strikes. And worse yet, often we don’t realize what we have discovered. I have been lucky to strike gold (and realize it), working with this production of Broken Hill. The cast , Karter, Gus, Ross, Jonathan, Ash and “Miss Sanford” have provided me with” the soothing balm of art”. Thank you. Many thanks to the Forst Inn for giving me the opportunity for the search.
